Finished the Academy in Munich, where he remained until 1883. There he created his first paintings under the influence of German realism: The Drowning Maiden, Anatomist, The Gospel Writer. Upon returning to Serbia, he made idyllic paintings: Kosovo Polje Landscape, From the Surroundings of Čačak, From Leskovac, Studenica, Žiča, etc. Out of a number of iconostases that he painted, the ones in Čurug and Niš Cathedral deserve particular attention. He did not finish the iconostasis in Niš, being that his paintings were regarded too much profane, especially the painting Death of Duke Lazar that has never been placed on the iconostasis hence. The Niš iconostasis contains the following paintings of Djordje Krstić:
The first zone - cardinal icons: St. Nicholas, Holy Trinity, Mother of God with Christ, Jesus Christ the Pantocrator, St John the Baptist, St. Sava Blesses Serbian Children, Beheading of St. John the Baptist.
The second zone: St. Peter, Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, Ascension, St. Eliah the Prophet, Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Resurrection of Lazarus, The Prayer in the Gethsemane Garden, Last Supper, Restoration of the Eyesight of Stephan Dečanski, Assumption, The Kiss of Judas.
The third zone: St. Paraskeve, Resurrection of Jesus.
The cardinal icon Mother of God with Christ belongs to his opponent Stevan Todorović.
